A Will is a legal document, but it should also be seen as a reflection of your current life. As personal circumstances evolve – through new relationships, family changes, or shifting priorities – your Will should evolve with them.

We recently assisted a client who had formed a new relationship later in life. Although she remained the sole owner of the property in which she and her partner lived, she was keen to ensure that the children and grandchildren from a previous relationship were appropriately provided for in her estate planning.

We advised on a structure that balanced both commitments. The revised Will allowed her partner the right to remain in the home for a fixed period following her death, while ensuring that the ultimate inheritance of the property and wider estate would pass to her descendants. This arrangement offered protection to her partner and upheld her long-standing intentions for her family.

This approach also allowed our client to openly discuss her wishes with her family after the Will was completed. By doing so, she helped to reduce the likelihood of future misunderstandings or disputes.

Our team regularly works with clients navigating complex family arrangements and understands the importance of clarity, flexibility, and sensitivity in later-life planning.

What Our Clients Say

“On moving to Devon in 2016 we decided to amend our wills and in 2018 employed Darby & Darby solicitors after looking at the previous reviews. We saw Ben Darby and his attention to detail and excellent customer service was superb. We have recently amended our wills to reflect some changes in our children’s circumstances and once again the service was once again courteous, professional and comfortable. We have no hesitation recommending this firm of solicitors.”
